Historical

Ronnie grew up in the desert, living a traditional lifestyle with his family around the Wilkinkarra-Lake MacKay area, being initiated into Aboriginal Law at Winparrku. In 1956, because of drought, he along with his, family walked to Haasts Bluff, where Ronnie began working as a stockman. Later the family moved to the newly established Papunya. Ronnie was involved with the return to traditional land, which was made possible with the establishment of Walungurru- Kintore in 1981. Ronnie lives at Kintore and on his out-station at Redbank-Ininti, with his family.

Ronnie began painting in the early 1970’s at Papunya, and has since emerged as a major artist, in 1988 winning the Alice Springs Art Prize. He paints many Tingari Stories with his distinctive graphic style. He has been exhibited both in Australia and overseas.
