She commenced painting in 1993 with other senior Aboriginal women from the Haasts Bluff and Kintore areas. They painted their Dreamtime stories.

Nyururupayia then painted for Papunya Tula artists. Her energetic forms, very contemporary, along with a strong colour palette has made her a popular artist with galleries, museums and collectors worldwide.

She is married to Aboriginal artist, John John Bennett Tjapangarti (now deceased).

Mrs Bennett, as she is known, has been in many group and solo exhibitions, her works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, Aboriginal Art Museum, The Netherlands, Gantner Myer Collection, San Francisco, USA
